Sad you are in pain. This is beautifully written and wise. I like that you pull from sources as diverse as Descartes

Thank you, Susan -- the pain is lessening, but only very gradually. At least, I can get by without OTC-painkillers. I think some scientists accept Descartes's theories, even today.

I am an old reclusive man save for working. My best time is with my many canine companions. I eschew television and radio preferring the sounds of the birds and the wind. I consider my domestic companion’s emissaries of the natural miraculous world mostly ignored by the throngs of culture and entertainment addicted folk oblivious of the miracles of interconnected life. Yes a miracle in a spider or a seed or a crustacean. Simply be quiet and listen. The dogs have the run of the house. They can be dogs at their own sentient behest, as they please. I watch and learn. I am always amazed and entertained by their antics and vigilance. Humans need to differentiate fear and vigilance. Good luck. I am glad to hear the argument for vegan sustenance and will consider it deeply although I am not in that camp. But it is food for thought. Thanks so much for the view.

Thank YOU for your thoughtful comment. What a lovely image -- you and your dogs. Yes, please consider -- at first, I meant to add some arguments, but I believe you know them and just have to sort them out. The sound of birds and the wind -- I drool, while I have to listen to TWO leaf blowers at the neighbor's property. It's painful.
