My dear subscribers, friends, supporters — I hope you didn’t think that I had abandoned you; I just wasn’t able to write anything, because I was busy moving. From New Mexico through Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York (maybe I forgot a state) to a bit south-east of Boston/Massachusetts.
There were times when I thought I’d lose my mind. Break into a thousand pieces. Start screaming and never stop. But somehow, I kept it together… Driving a rented moving truck from New Mexico to Massachusetts may sound like fun, but it decidedly was not. The road conditions (Interstate highways, mind you) were simply dismal, and together with the awful suspension of the U-Haul truck this meant that I could hear all the bones in my body rattling all the time. I felt bad for my doggie, Max, but he was such a trooper — didn’t puke, even once.
In Kansas it was awfully windy, in Ohio it rained all the time, and in New York we even encountered thick fog — something I remember from Germany, but never had come across in California, or New Mexico. Not pleasant driving.
I stopped counting all the poor, dead animals by the road… And I never thought there could be so MANY huge trucks. Day or night. 24/7.
My daughter flew out to Kansas City/MO to be with me for the rest of the trip, and without her I would have landed in a ditch somewhere, I’m sure. But because of her we reached our destination last Friday around 8 pm. Some of her friends came by on Saturday to help unload, and now most of my stuff is in the garage and I can’t find anything. But it doesn’t bother me all that much; I’m taking it easy and gaining my strength back.
My apologies for missing two articles; I promise I’ll make up for it.
Glad you arrived safely!
Happy you are with Zöe. Bravo for you!!
