git up and go must be their touch phrase and what an adventure !! wonderful post i enjoyed it / i have dragonflies in my 'pond' / i've been stung by a nymph in the water (presumably) and found the exoskeleton of a dragon fly on the wall of the pool where it had climbed out of the water / usually some little blue ones and larger (but not 30" wingspan) red ones appear every summer in my backyard / don't worry about the self-promotion people understand / I have not found any self-promotion that i was comfortable that people responded to (thank you for being one ) / people read things for free online all the time so they come to expect it and don't see the difference between a finely honed post that took many hours to create and an article in usa today with typos composed in a matter of minutes with AI and a corporate agenda
Lucky you, having them so close by! 30" wingspan are long extinct; not sure if that was clear. Thank you for the pep-talk. I had four cancellations LOL, (of free subscribers), maybe they don't like "bugs". If so, good riddance. I find all critters fascinating; maybe I'll write a piece about mosquitoes -- and lose half of my readers 😉
ha !! sorry to hear that / can't be a good feeling / it's kind of a myth promulgated by substack that everybody can develop a substantial paying audience / i've been writing every week for 4 years doing my very best and have 16 paying customers (almost 200 total) / i mentioned this to hamish on an open forum and there haven't been any open forums since / on the other hand i've had alot of fun and met some great people like you : )
one thing i like to do is add 'buy me a coffee' to my posts using donorbox.org so people can support me with a one time donation if they were inspired by the post
