There I was bitterly complaining about the cold all winter, and now that it’s hot, I’m not happy either! Outside temperatures reached over 100F today, and the inside of my house wasn’t much cooler because I don’t have an air conditioner. It’s still almost 90F inside, although it’s almost 11 pm as I write this and the air outside has cooled off somewhat. But I can’t open the windows yet, because even with screens all kinds of bugs find their way in, as long the lights are on…
When I went to school in Germany, AGES ago, we always got the day off when it reached 30 degrees Celsius — which is 86F. Really. Unlike today, this rarely happened; summers were usually grey and cold and rainy. With maybe a week of sunshine. One reason why I didn’t want to stay.
Sooo —to finally get to the point — I want to take the day off. I’m working on a piece about wolves. There were hundreds of thousands roaming all over what is now the U.S.A., but the European settlers killed them all so they were almost extinct. Legends and fairytales told of vicious, evil, aggressive wolves — to be feared and detested. For Native Americans, on the other hand, the wolf was a courageous, loyal, and strong being providing protection and guidance. How could the same animal inspire such opposite associations?
I’ll let you know in a week. My brain is kind of melting, and I just can’t focus or concentrate. We MAY get some rain, starting next Wednesday or Thursday… The monsoon is late because we had all this rain in April and May. Now everything is bone-dry again.
I hope you don’t mind. Here is anyther image of my state of being:
hope it rains for you soon! rained too much here wish I could send some your way!
I keep hoping that climate catastrophe will begin to register. Like a thermostat in peoples heads. E-gads what mess are we leaving to our kids??
